  • The famous Hungarian fried dough that everyone talks about. If you want to experience it like locals, you need nothing more on your Lángos than sourcream, cheese, garlic, and optionally some ham.

The best tip for authentic & cheap Lángos, is visiting some of the local markets.

Two markets where you can have some good Lángos in the city are Hunyadi Square Market, and Lehel Market, but it’s worth exploring others too!

    LÁNGOSOS - Flórián tér aluljáró

A classic local spot. Don’t expect anything fancy, this is not a proper restaurant. It’s a stand in the underground passage, but it’s made exactly how a true hungarian lángos is made, with love, care, and local ingredients. Bit outside of the city unfortunately, but really tasty and cheap.

    Retro Lángos

They took the idea of lángos, and turned it up a notch. From the classic sourcream & cheese all the way to creative twists like chilli con carne and tzatziki toppings that you won’t find anywhere else. More of a touristy place, but you will also find locals here, as the quality is great. Right in the heart of the city next to Deák Square

  • Chimney cake:

The infamous Chimney Cake (or Kürtőskalács) is seen roasting over flaming coal in every festival and pop-up market in the country. If you’re here during the holiday season, your best bet will be finding it at the Christmas markets. Pricey, but usually really good quality, and a lovely experience in the winter cold. Otherwise, here are our recommendations:

    Molnár's kürtőskalács

Located next to Deák, this place is very popular and thus will be rather crowded. We suggest you try the more traditional versions: only cinnamon, sugar, or walnut topping, but there are some wild combinations here as well.

    Édes Mackó

One of the very few places that make Kürtőskalács over fire all year round. If you’re in the City Park, it’s the perfect spot to satisfy your sweet cravings.

    Stands in the subway stations

Although the quality won’t be the same, the Kürtőskalács stands inside subway stations are an easy way to try this Hungarian pastry, and the prices are much lower. Astoria, Deák Ferenc Square, Oktogon, Western Railway Station are just some of the many central locations where you can find pop-up Chimney cake stations.

  • Vaj - Arguably the best bakery around town, the croissants are just amazing! Visit in the morning for some breakfast or freshly baked goodies! They have 3 different locations.

Briós - A charming breakfast spot offering the perfect remedy for a slow morning with their omelette-filled bagels, fresh croissants, and Italian coffee.

Lumen Café -  Located in the heart of the Palace district, this place is open from breakfast to dinner! They also host events, and have a cozy terrace!

  • Not in the mood for Hungarian food? Here are some places we go to, and enjoy!

    Dine-in Restaurants:

Belli di Mama - Listed in the top 50 pizza places in Europe year after year.

Goodbar Goodburger - As the name suggests, you can get some great burgers and cocktails here.:)

Kandalló Craft Beer & Burger Pub - Again, nice burgers, and craft beers!

Tokio - If you’re looking to treat yourself to some Japanese food that you’ll remember, Tokio is your spot. It is expensive, but you get your money's worth.

Wafu - Delicious ramens in a cozy place for a reasonable price.

Pandzsáb Tandoori - Authentic Indian restaurant. Not the fanciest, but will definitely satisfy your curry cravings!:)

    Street food/budget:

Papitos - Delicious, authentic, Mexican tacos (only a few, and mostly outside tables).

Bamba Marha - Juicy and tasty burgers with many locations across the city.
Indigo Express - Fast-food type indian restaurant with reasonable pricing.
